As many of you know because of your generous donations, we are currently constructing 18 special needs chairs for our kids to sit upright during lessons. Our first chairs have all been for our kids with kernicterus. This is a form of cerebral palsy from jaundice as an infant. It leaves the children with basically no control over any of their muscles. This makes it very challenging for them to use their hands or participate actively in the lessons well. Their intelligence is usually normal, so we definitely want them to be able to participate well in their lessons (it is so good for them).
These sturdy chairs with straps help support their limbs so children can experience sitting upright and work on core strength. Constructing the chairs can be a long process as we have to keep measuring and trying new ways to help each child get the very best supportive option.
The chairs have proven to be a long-term investment donors can be proud of, because each chair will last Shield City for multiple years and serve many, many children.
Thank you for your support which has made it possible for each child to have a supportive type of seating. It can often feel overwhelming to have so many kids with various needs, which we try our very best to accommodate.
