Knit for Nigeria
Fundraising for Shield City: One Knit Item at a Time
24 HATS SOLD as of Nov. 7!
Fall 2024 update for Knit for Nigeria...IT'S WORKING!

After three months of hard work knitting and spinning and networking, our project is well on its way! We have 8 knitters working in Oregon and Washington on more than 30 wool beanies and scarves. Best of all- virtually every hat in the making is already spoken for by family and friends of our knitters. Success!
Thank you to everyone who has participated, including two Oregon wool empresses who donated their hand spun yarn, fleeces or processed roving to our project.

We recently sold six hats at a casual party in Eugene, Oregon, where party goers heard about our fundraiser and got on board! People were quite touched about their funds going to help special needs kiddos in Nigeria. Many people commented on the beautiful alpaca wool used in our yarns.

You can now purchase your own beanie here on our shop!

Exceptionally crafted knit-wear
Our volunteer media coordinator Jeslyn Lemke in Eugene, Oregon has spun alpaca, mohair and sheep wool for many years. Our talented knitters really know how to knit and pearl.
Handspun, handknit 100% Oregon wool
Hand-spun, hand-knit beanies from 100 percent Oregon wool! 100 percent of our beanie sales go to support the medical needs and development therapy for the special needs children at Shield City Empowerment. These special needs children, some with cerebral palsy, autism, or down syndrome, make great progress each week with a hands-on tutor at our center in Kano, Nigeria.
Velvet soft, toasty warm and totally organic beanie for the cold days. With your donation, you will receive in the mail one beautiful and thick hand-crafted beanie by our team of Shield City knitters and spinners. Knitters are currently working on our beanies and we will let you know when we are ready to sell! Beanies are not yet available for sale.
Our goal is to sell 50 beanies in 2024! Buy a few and mail them to family for a cozy Christmas present that is exceptionally hand-crafted.
Our team of knitters in Oregon has:
-
hand- selected the exact sheep or alpaca fleece for this project
-
hand-spun a 100% wool yarn on a home spinning wheel in Oregon
-
hand-knit a wool beanie using a pattern shared among the team
Each of our beanies is hand-made and no two beanies are exactly alike. Your beanie may not match the exact photo, as each knitter has their own style of knitting and needle gauge. Enjoy the variety!
