We’ve just partnered up with an amazing business in Minna, Nigeria (a neighboring city) that makes cloth diapers and pads, called “Pad-Up.” This cool start-up creates fabric sanitary napkins and diapers. Our mothers really need reusable items instead of disposable, as it saves them so much of their little money. Many of our students are never able to go without diapers, some even into their grown years. It is hard for our mothers to find the right size of diapers at the shops in Kano as the kids get bigger. Having a cloth diaper can really help with those issues! Of course, Shield City also serves many families with babies, so the cloth diaper option can be a good one for new babies too. Here in Nigeria and most of West Africa, families only hand wash clothes- there are no washing machines. So having disposable items to hand wash makes even more sense.
A current pack of 2 diapers is 2.000 naira in Nigerian currency: at the current exchange rate that means each cloth diaper is 70 cents. Additionally, a donation of $20 on your part can buy a whopping 28 cloth diapers for a family - we are hoping many of you will take interest in this new service and donate!
Ordering these cloth diapers may also fund cloth sanitary napkins for young mothers at our clinic, who can't afford disposable napkins at the store.
You are also supporting a Nigerian woman-led business when buying these diapers!!
