Greetings! Our holiday seasonal fundraiser Knit for Nigeria is on fire! So far, we've sold 21 hand-knit handspun 100% Oregon wool beanies to raise funds for our special needs kids here in Kano. Our team of eight knitters in Oregon and Washington are still hard at work doing that knit pearl life! Volunteer media coordinator Jeslyn Lemke handspun more than 8 pounds of yarn on her spinning wheel from beautiful alpaca and sheep fleeces. We hope to sell another 15 hats by Christmas. Please consider buying one of these thick and warm hand-made beanies for the cool weather upon us. All of our proceeds pay for these children's play therapy and physical therapy needs.
Shield City Empowerment Initiative (SCEI) is a non-profit located in the city of Kano in Northern Nigeria. The center offers tutoring and physical therapy to more than 50 special needs children each week. We are the only resource in northern Nigeria for special needs children, who are often kept at home in sub-Saharan Africa.
