It’s not easy to work to relocate an entire nonprofit office and one’s family, but we are doing it! After our current landlord said he was selling our building, we searched and searched and have found a new, giant location for the nonprofit just blocks away from our old location.
The major issue with our new location is the house has not been lived in for 15 years! Wow! So much work! This past week the Shield Football team has been busy working to clean up the house and we have had at least 20 workers in the house each day.
There was no ceiling in any room of the house, no wiring, no running water or well on the property. There are some minor cracks in the walls we must repair with concrete, so those also need attention. We have seen a lot of progress in this past week and we are hopeful to be able to relocate by the end of the month.
We are a big family at this point! Our Shield City house is very similar to grand central station. Currently, we have director Laura Sharpe, her three biological kids, the first orphan we helped in Niger is schooling here with us, an adopted son from the football team, plus three more players are currently living at the house. Most evenings we have no less than 15 people for the evening meal, but not everyone sleeps in the house.
The most exciting feature of this house is an amazing yard with a giant mango tree where all of the center kids can play! We are very thankful for these provisions and we know that it will be a wonderful location to continue to serve the community in the years ahead.
